A devil, a collection of people pretending not to be hungry and a room full of chocolate!
Crawley Town Supporters Alliance have recently organised their 2nd Easter Egg collection for Chestnut Tree House, the only children’s hospice in Sussex. The relationship between the CTSA and Chestnut ree House is strengthening and judging by the large amount of Easter Eggs collected our members are happy to support the charity. Due to the fantastic response, two vehicles were needed to transport the 274 eggs, Chairman Paul Prendergast and Reggie the Red down to Arundel last Saturday (30 March 2013 ) to visit the children.
Reggie and his new fan club!
Said Paul, “I am overwhelmed by the generosity shown by Reds fans, it has been a fantastic response, CTSA are very proud to be associated with Chestnut Tree House and will be raising funds for them in the future.”
Chestnut Tree House are
currently caring for 280 children with life limiting and threatening illnesses. The hospice provides short stays for the children allowing parents to have a break from day to day caring in the knowledge that their loved ones are in a safe and loving environment,as well as many other services including assessment, advice, community support, bereavement support and end of life care.
Children at the House last Saturday were thrilled to see Reggie the Red as he got up to his usual mischief. The smiles and reactions were heartwarming to see. He may look at home on the Broadfield pitch but in a room he is larger than life and it was fun to see him in action.
Corporate Fundraiser, Terrina Barnes said,’Our association with the club is very important. They have supported us for the past 3 seasons for which we are truly grateful. The complimentary family tickets are very much appreciated and on occasions our children have become match day mascots which is a wonderful experience. Many thanks for the Easter Eggs, we will use them for Easter trails in the gardens, give some to siblings and also use them for cooking, none will be wasted!”
During a guided tour of Chestnut Tree House, near Arundel, it becomes very clear of the costs involved. There is top end medical and entertainment equipment in every room and amenity costs are not cheap. It costs almost £3 million each year to provide all the care services at Chestnut Tree House and out in the community. Families are never charged for their care and the hospice receives less than 8% from central government, so it relies heavily on the generosity, help and support of the local community.
As Chestnut Tree House celebrates its 10th birthday during 2013, the bond between the hospice and Crawley Town Football Club will continue to flourish!
